Some odds and ends I put on the first page. Check out the individual Galleries for more drawings!
Let's draw! Here is the start of a pastel drawing. The first steps are lightly drawing in the subject with a drawing pencil. After the outline is applied to the paper, I will then get out the pastels. First I apply the major areas that are going to be white. Then the next lightest color - in this case - a sandy brown color. It doesn't look like much now.
The next step is applying the darker colors. In this case the base color of the dog is black. So some basic outline goes on and areas where it is blackest. You can see I outlined the eyes, nose and mouth as well.
In this stage, I added in the eye color, the inside mouth and tongue color. I also sketched in the areas where it is darkest black.
Here I am blending in the darkest black to the lighter black areas. And doing the same with the other colors.
Now onto the final stages! In this photo I am actually starting to do the final color stages. I have applied a heavier application of black to the darkest areas.
The dark black has gone down and then I blended the black out to the lightest black areas. I also put down a darker orange brown In this photo you can see where I blended the black, but I haven't yet blended in the orange brown yet.
Here I blended the darker areas in and now have added highlights to put in some depth of the image. Making it look more 3 Dimensional.
Here I have added color to the background. I have also started a second image below the head study. Same basic procedure for the smaller drawing.
Upside down - yes. At different times throughout the drawing process I will flip the drawing and draw that way for a bit.
